Natural Black Hair unwanted by many black women.

Why is it that many African American black women want their hair straight instead of curly. Even if it means harming themselves in the process?

I myself wear my hair natural. The women who still wear their hair straight are women who want to fit in with white society or they have been doing it straight for so long that they dont know any other way. Slaves began wearing their hair straight to please their slave masters. The slave master treated the straight haired slave better than the ones with natural (nappy) heads. Nothing has changed because the root of why black women still wear their hair straight is to please white society for money.

Many people wear their hair straight because comming up from childhood their mothers have been using straighting combs on the hair. Then when they got old enough they would put a perm in the childs hair. This was supose to make the hair easier to do. what really happens with the perm at such a early age is the hair gets really weak and brittle the edges begin to fall out and a lot of times they loose most of the hair. Then in adulthood it becomes a thing that takes place every six weeks a touch up with these chemicals in order to keep your hair straight…I could only imagine what all those chemicals over a long period of time has done to harm the body..Some people will do any thing for the price of as they say being beauiful……Cherrell
